It has been called a “home away from home” by many senior citizens in Licking County.
Zerger Hall Senior Center, the headquarters of the Licking County Aging Program, is more home than senior center. Each day, older adults from all over Licking County come to Zerger Hall Senior Center to play cards, take computer classes, enjoy a good hot lunch, exercise, learn new crafts, play Bingo and do many other activities. They visit with each other and the staff. Unlike some senior centers, there is no membership fee. Some clubs have minimal fees of a few dollars for annual dues.
As for LCAP services, there is no charge, only a requested donation. No one is denied services for failure to make a donation. Our services range from personal care, homemaking and home chores, to meal delivery, medical transportation, friendly phone calls to senior shut-ins, and an array of recreational, information and educational programs.
Several years ago, a staff member printed out what has become the enduring legacy of Zerger Hall Senior Center and the Licking County Aging Program. This statement is posted in nearly every office. “A senior is the most important visitor on our premises. They are not dependent on us. We are dependent on them. They are not an interruption in our work. They are the purpose of it. They are not an outsider in our business. They are part of it. We are not doing them a favor by serving them. They are doing us a favor by giving us the opportunity to do so.”
