We’re taking action on Age-Friendly Licking County.

Our Age-Friendly Action Plan has been submitted and officially approved by AARP.

We’ve also finalized a three-year implementation strategy focused on:

• Community health, systems, services, and supports

• Housing and transportation

• Outdoor spaces and buildings

• Communication, information, and social connection

Our approach is straightforward: strengthen what’s already working, collaborate with local partners, and introduce practical improvements that make Licking County more livable for people of all ages.

We’re supporting access and mobility across Licking County.

Data collected through our Age-Friendly planning process highlighted a critical issue: limited mobility and transportation are major barriers for many people who live, work, or age in Licking County.

Several areas of the county lack nearby access to fresh food, creating food deserts often compounded by the absence of reliable transportation to grocery stores.

The good news: Licking County Transit is rapidly expanding free, reliable public transportation across the county. View expanded service routes here.

In addition, Licking County Aging Partners now offers regularly scheduled transportation to grocery stores across Licking County, along with ongoing non-emergency medical transportation for adults age 60 and older.

Age-Friendly work removes barriers, and that benefits everyone.

We’re sharing resources to support mental health.

Mental Health First Aid for Older Adults is an in-person training that helps participants recognize the signs of mental health challenges and substance use disorders in older adults and how to respond appropriately.

This practical course builds the skills needed to offer initial support during a crisis or when concerns first arise. LCAP offers the training in two half-day sessions.

We’re advocating for the value of older workers.

Our findings reinforce what employers are already seeing: older workers bring leadership, deep community ties, and long-term commitment to the workforce. Concerns about technology skills are largely misplaced.

Today’s workers in their 50s entered the job market at the start of the computer age. They helped build the digital world we use today and bring the experience to ask better, more informed questions, including around emerging tools like AI.
