ACTIVITIES Zerger Hall Senior Center has been described as a home-away-from-home for seniors. Here, they find a caring staff to talk about what they had for dinner the night before, last night’s episode of “Dancing with the Stars” and the latest news. Activities include computer classes, seasonal dances, monthly entertainment lunches known as the Friday Fling, informative aging-issue seminars and programs, income tax assistance from professionally trained AARP representatives, crafts and games. Many senior clubs meet at Zerger Hall and you are welcome to join their ranks. Activities are open to anyone 55 or older.
TRIPS Each month, numerous trips are available to various venues including area plays, concerts, sporting events, historical destinations or fun places like the Wheeling Island Casino. More distant overnight trips or those involving several days and overnights also available. The trips are not funded by the senior levy and your charge covers any admission and a modest transportation fee. The trips are listed each month in “Journeys” the free monthly trip publication of the Licking County Aging Program. Copies can be mailed to your home, emailed to your inbox or are available in the news racks at Zerger Hall Senior Center.Email Transportation
SMILEMAKERS Sometimes many emotional or physical problems facing the elderly come from a phone that never hears a ring or a door that never hears a knock. Isolation and loneliness, for whatever the reason, is a major problem facing seniors. You are not alone and we have a service to help. Our two Smilemakers can call you daily, weekly or at your convenience in the morning or afternoon. You can talk for a few minutes or as long as your heart desires. Our Smilemakers are good listeners and they sincerely care about you. Many friendships and bonds have developed between our Smilemakers and their clients. If you are a senior who would like a call, or would like to refer someone for the Smilemaker service, just dial 740-345-0821 or toll-free 1-800-452-0097 and ask for our Smilemakers.
FEES It is a policy of the Licking County Aging Program not to charge a fee for services. Suggested donation schedules are provided to help defer expenses. But no one is denied services due to an inability to donate. For example, the suggested donation for a complete senior meal is $2.50. A rate schedule does apply at the Reese Adult Day Center. |
